KEY POINTS

  • Steph Curry injured his wrist in October and hasn’t played since
  • Klay Thompson is still rehabbing his knee after tearing his ACL in the Finals
  • Without the two, they are currently the second-worst team in the league

The Golden State Warriors aren’t in the position they had hoped after they finished as a runner-up to Kawhi Leonard-led Toronto Raptors. Losing their key players and the influx of newcomers may have taken a toll on their progression.

Klay Thompson tore his ACL on the third quarter of Game 6 against the Raptors last season. He had 28 points before he hurt his knee off a fastbreak layup attempt. He was walking to the dugout when he decided to return to the court and take the free throws to add two more points to his total.

Then, Stephen Curry was driving for a Fastbreak against two defenders when he landed awkwardly with his hand. He didn’t finish the game and was diagnosed with a broken hand. It’s more than two months and there is no timetable on when he is going to return to the floor.

Not to mention, Kevin Durant also injured his Achilles in Game 5 of their showdown Toronto and eventually lost him to via trade for D’Angelo Russell in Brooklyn and Andre Iguodala, their former Finals MVP, who is now with the Memphis Grizzlies.

In a report from Basketball Network, coach Steve Kerr shared the status of his two main gunners and on when he is expecting the Splash Brothers to be back in Chase Center and play with the 9-32 Warriors. In the interview, he is optimistic that the two-time NBA MVP will be to end the season with the team.

“His injury is not so serious as Klay’s dealing with a hand and not a knee. We are going to re-evaluate Steph sometime in February, but I think there is an excellent chance he comes back in March, late in the season,” said the champion coach before adding that their young players want to play with him.

The case of Thompson, though, is a completely different story. “I doubt Klay will play coming off an ACL injury. We wouldn’t want to put him in jeopardy,” Kerr said of his 29-year old shooting guard.

Curry has only played the first four games of the Warriors this season and averaged 20.3 points, 6.5 assists, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.3 steals. It would be a treat for the fans to see one of the best shooters the league has ever seen but it is also something that cay affect their placing in the next year’s draft where they have the chance of even getting the top pick which features James Wiseman, Cole Anthony and LaMelo Ball.
