KEY POINTS

  • Klay Thompson is signed by Chinese shoe company Anta for a 10-year extension in 2017
  • The shoes were inspired by Klay’s bulldog, Rocco
  • A party was done to officially launch the new KT5 colorway

Golden State Warriors fans may find themselves disappointed after the announcement that the return of Stephen Curry will have to wait for another couple of days. He may not go out and play in tonight’s game but there’s already someone who will be put into the spotlight.

Klay Thompson announced that he will be unveiling his new signature shoe with colorways that feature his pet, Rocco. Per Anta’s Instagram page, the design was inspired by the Warriors’ star’s bulldog, which serves as his inspiration.

The designs have Rocco all-around it – from the sole, heel and the tongue. The limited-edition basketball shoes were mostly black and white but still a fresh-looking kick that shows Klay’s affection to his four-legged buddy.

The shoe was officially launched before the game between Golden State and the Washington Wizards and before the game, Klay and Rocco already arrived in the venue for the signing. A video posted on Twitter shows Klay and Rocco sitting comfortably on his chair, which looks cozier than what his master is using before the media and spectators.

The 30-year old Thompson shared on his social media that it will be dropped 10 am this morning and will be available at the Warriors Shop inside Thrive City while the launch party already started at 5 pm. Klay is wearing the new shoe to serve as a preview of how it looks like wearing the dog-inspired kicks.

Unlike Curry who is about to return anytime toward the end of the season, Klay is not expected to hit the court as he is still recovering from his knee injury. He tore his ACL during their Finals series last season against the Toronto Raptors, who eventually won the title.

With Klay unable to return to the court this season, his dog is not hard to find as his canine friend has its own Instagram account, which mainly shows the lifestyle of a pet of a five-time NBA All-Star and a three-time NBA champion.
