An NBA veteran recently claimed that Portland Trail Blazers’ Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum are a better duo than Golden State Warriors’ Steph Curry and Klay Thompson.

The NBA’s Western Conference just had a new look this summer after NBA superstars decided to switched teams. Specifically after Kawhi Leonard and Paul George formed the “Big 2”, the whole NBA is now willing to spend more money and effort to build their own version of dynamic duo.

In a recent episode of ESPN’s “Jalen and Jacoby”, NBA veteran Ryan Hollins and David Jacoby himself tried to rank the best backcourt duos in the NBA’s Western Conference today.

Both of them agreed that the number one spot belongs to Houston Rockets as the team is now equipped with two MVP’s Russell Westbrook and James Harden as their backcourts. However, the two NBA analysts had different takes on the number two spot.

Jacoby insisted that former champs Curry and Thompson deserve to be next to Harden and Westbrook while Hollins believe that Lillard and McCollum is the better duo. Jacoby stressed that what makes the Curry-Thompson duo far better than Lillard and McCollum is that both Warriors guards can play defense.

Hollins begged to disagree and pointed out the fact that Thompson’s injury will affect his performance. The former Clipper also stated that if it wasn’t for Thompson’s ACL injury, he and Curry could have been ahead of Lillard-McCollum team-up. But if they are talking about who the better duo is at this point, it will be Lillard and McCollum.

However, Jacoby mentioned that Lillard and McCollum have had troubles in playing defense in the past while Curry and Thompson have already proven that they are great defenders.

The NBA veteran once again disagreed and said that Curry and Thompson may have been good defenders but Lillard and McCollum are better scorers.

“Yes but scoring wise, that is not gonna be a problem,” Hollins pointed.

Hollins responded to Jacoby’s statement about Curry and Thompson’s defense and said that Curry never stopped anybody but “outscore” them. He also reminded Jacoby of the 50-point playoff game performance of Lillard against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

“It was literally one of the most impressive playoff performances I have ever seen in my entire life,” Hollins noted.

LeBron James and Danny Green was also included on Hollins’ list and didn’t go unnoticed. Jacoby questioned Hollins for putting James and Green as best backcourt duos because Lakers Head Coach Frank Vogel just stated that James will not be their primary point guard.

Hollins answered back by stating that the NBA today is “positionless” and James has always played point guard every now and then.
