Miami Heat appears to still be unsure about what role Jimmy Butler will play next season.

Ahead of the 2019-20 season, Butler was reportedly already showing signs of leadership as the newest Heat star. However, based on the team’s recent statements, it appears that Butler’s role is still a question.

In a recent interview with Fansided, Heat’s point guard Goran Dragic shared his thoughts about Butler coming into the team as a star. According to Dragic, he doesn’t know much about Butler but he sees the former Sixers star as a tough defender.

“He’s a great competitor. You can see that on the court. I don’t know him personally, but as a player, when I play against him he’s really a tough defender,” Dragic said about Butler.

However, Dragic is positive that Butler has the ability to lead the team because of his strong presence inside the court. “He’s really vocal on the floor. I think he sets an example for the other players. I think he’s a huge addition for us, especially to lead this group,” Dragic added.

Meanwhile, the other notable point guard of the team Justise Winslow was also unable to perfectly picture how Butler will fit in. In a brief talk with Sun Sentinel, Winslow just gave a vague statement pertaining to what Butler will do for the Heat.

“It kind of happened out of the blue,” Winslow said about Butler joining Miami.

“I think we can use him in a lot of efficient ways,” Winslow said.

It is also a current issue that Heat coach Erik Spoelstra still hasn’t decided yet whether Dragic or Winslow will be the starting point gurad next season. But for Winslow, he is pretty sure that he will play point guard and he is confident that his playmaking skills have already improved.

“I feel like my playmaking and my ability to take care of the ball has gotten a lot better, as well," Winslow emphasized.

As for the each player’s role, Winslow believes that everybody wants a bigger role in the team but usually, it doesn’t match the coach’s plans.

“Everyone has ideas of what they want their role to be, and for most people it never fits what they want. Everyone always wants a bigger role,” Winslow noted.

Heat icon Dwayne Wade somehow thinks that Butler will be an “energizer” for the team.

“I think it’s going to fare well with him. And I think the guys on the team will be energized to have a guy like Jimmy there to push them,” Wade said about Butler.
