  • The said house is reportedly listed for sale

Former Los Angeles Lakers guard and two-time NBA Champion Shannon Brown was arrested for assault on Saturday. The 34-year-old allegedly fired gunshots towards a couple who he said entered his house in Tyrone, Georgia. The property is apparently up for sale.

“A Tyrone man was charged May 2 with aggravated assault after allegedly firing a rifle in the direction of two people who said they entered his home that was listed for sale, with the gate and front door open,” a report from The Citizen read. “Shannon Brown, 34, was charged with one count of aggravated assault, according to Fayette County Jail records.”

Based on the complainants' account, the said residence, which is located at River Oaks subdivision off Ga. Highway 74, has a "for sale" sign outside. The couple also insisted that there was someone who attended to them as soon as they entered the premises.

“The couple told police the gate to the property was open, as was the front door, (Police spokesman Philip) Nelson said, adding that the couple maintained they announced their presence as they entered the home, and that someone inside the home said, ‘Come in.’” the report added.

As they were about to check the house, the couple said Brown “emerged holding a rifle,” which forced them to leave immediately while the ex-professional athlete continued to fire “five or six rounds in their direction.”

In his defense, Brown said he thought the couple was breaking in his residence. The investigation of the incident is said to be ongoing as of the moment.

Brown was part of the 2009 and 2010 Lakers Championship teams. He spent three seasons with the Purple and Gold and averaged 7.9 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.2 assists on 42.9% shooting from the field and 34.6% percent from the three-point territory.

A product of Michigan State, Brown was drafted 25th overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2006 NBA draft. He spent 12 seasons as a journeyman in the league, having played for a total of eight teams, including the Spurs, Suns, and Knicks. He last suited up for the Miami Heat in 2014, but only played for five games before being waived.
