NBA Rumors: Derrick Rose Part Of Something Big For Pistons, Detroit Keeping Faith

Derrick Rose loomed as one of the interesting NBA stars who could have moved recently but the Detroit Pistons did not budge. The Los Angeles Lakers would have made sense, seeing how head coach Frank Vogel was in dire need of a point guard. The Lakers and the Pistons did talk about a possible scenario but things just did not work out.

Until now, no one knew why the Pistons kept Rose with their current NBA season seemingly lost. Instead, it was Andre Drummond who was deal away to the Atlanta Hawks. Brian Windhorst of The Hoop Collective shared something interesting, revealing why Detroit opted to keep the former NBA MVP.

"From what I understand, when the Lakers called the Pistons and expressed an interest in trading for Derrick Rose, the Pistons said 'Hey, we appreciate you calling, but we're not trading him. Dwane Casey likes him. We think he's going to be important for us next year.' He just wasn't available," Windhorst said.

Rose has had a different kind of season, something like a renaissance. He has played in 47 games for the Motor City squad, averaging 18.0 points,5.7 assists and 2.4 rebounds, as per Basketball-Reference.com. Those are fairly close to his career averages and could be easily overtaken. D-Rose is playing only 26.2 minutes per contest, something that could also explain his durability this 2019-20 season.

As most know, injuries have kept Rose from completing an NBA season. The most he has played is 81 games - something that dates back to his rookie and junior seasons. Since then, he has failed to finish with various injuries piling up. Thankfully, Rose is just 31 and had time to adjust. Now he is reaping the benefits of that with a stellar (and surprise) outing with the Pistons.

Rose still has a live contract with Detroit until next season. Should he prove to be the man that Dwane Casey thinks he is, expect the 6-foot-2 guard to be rewarded with a lucrative and long-term deal. At any rate, things could work out for D-Rose redemption bid. Had he gone to the Lakers or any other team, he would have likely seen spot minutes and less action on the floor.

Derrick Rose NBA career is on the rebound and things could be better for his team next season. That all depends on who comes on board to provide help to the former NBA Rookie of the Year.
