KEY POINTS

  • Waiters is growing impatient with no offers on the table
  • Waiters considers retirement option
  • Waiters is still an asset for any NBA team in need of a shooting guard

Dion Waiters has had an up and down NBA career although his last ride proved rewarding.

Though he did not play much when he was acquired by the Los Angeles Lakers, it doesn't change the fact that the 29-year-old is a certified NBA champion.

The only problem with that is that after his 2020 NBA Finals run, the fourth overall pick of the 2012 Draft is a free-agent and remains unemployed with the 2020-21 season underway.

Waiters is still young and could still get a shot at playing NBA ball moving forward. However, the 6-foot-3 guard admitted that he did consider retirement. He hinted at that option during an Instagram Live session.

“They think I’m playing. I’ve been contemplating it though—about retiring,” Waiters said. “It’s the politics for me. Game-wise, we know what’s up. I just can’t do the politics, man. We ain’t going over that water. I’ll retire before that.”

Before joining the Lakers, Waiters had a rough and tumble time with the Miami Heat. That included being suspended multiple times.

He played only three games with the Heat, averaging 9.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in 14 minutes of action.

With the Lakers, he played for seven games, norming 11.9 points, 2.4 assists, and 1.9 rebounds. But as mentioned earlier, he was hardly seen in the postseason. He played in only 5 games and put up measly averages of 2.0 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.9 assists.

There is no question that if he gets his act right, Waiters is still a reliable player that any team would love to have as he owns a career field goal average of 41.2% and 34.6% from beyond the arc.
