KEY POINTS

  • Dennis Smith Jr was one of the more promising guards in the NBA
  • The New York Knicks have been struggling as Smith has seen a major dip in his stats
  • The Golden State Warriors may benefit from Smith as a backup point guard

With doubt looming the Golden State Warriors in this season, the team is still determined to make the best adjustments for the franchise. One possible talent the squad can take advantage of is New York Knicks guard Dennis Smith Jr.

With everything that has happened with the Warriors this year, the team has been constantly checking what best works for their roster. While the team placed in the Western Conference, Golden State is still in a strong position to improve moving forward. One of their major transactions involves trading their offseason pickup of D’Angelo Russell for former number one overall pick Andrew Wiggins.

To add to these, a big part of their overall assets is the 2020 first-round pick that they can use to lure valuable resources for the team.

While Eric Paschall rose as an impressive pick for the Warriors with his sensational rookie campaign, there still remains a lot of work to be done for Golden State. Adding someone like Smith can be beneficial for the Bay Area squad per Fansided’s Blue Man Hoop. The explosive point guard was scouted as one of the rising stars of the league with his incredible athleticism and energy on the floor. While he’s hit a rough spot now with the New York Knicks, a different environment can be the change he needs to revitalize his career.

The Warriors are in need of a backup point guard with the load Steph Curry will have to carry on his shoulders. Having someone like Smith’s caliber can help the Warriors’ second unit as the 22-year-old has a lot more to offer in his young career. During Smith’s rookie campaign he averaged 15.2 points, 5.2 assists and a steal a game. Playing with a franchise with elite players such as Klay Thompson and Curry can help Smith regain his old form now with a winning team.

As the Bay Area team continues to find what's best for their lineup, it would be interesting to see how Golden State will strategize for the upcoming seasons. It will be important to see how role players such as Smith can help contribute to the rebuilding of the Warriors.
