KEY POINTS

  • Pacers guard is likely moving out before the 2020-21 season starts
  • Sixers loom as the better landing spot for Oladipo
  • Oladipo to Bucks deal may not prosper

Victor Oladipo has been linked to several NBA teams, indicating that a move out of the Indiana Pacers could happen soon.

Among the clubs linked to the second overall pick of the 2013 NBA Draft include the Miami Heat, Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers and the Milwaukee Bucks, among others.

The latest on Oladipo is that the Pacers have had talks with the Bucks, The Ringer reported. Aside from discussions, there is no telling if something will transpire.

But for Milwaukee, adding the 28-year-old could be a way to convince resident star Giannis Antetokounmpo to finally sign a supermax deal.

As of this writing, Milwaukee has yet to sign the two-time MVP. Such has raised speculation that Antetokounmpo could end up signing with another club once his deal expires next season.

The Bucks have one full NBA season to make their move and secure “The Greek Freak.”

With regards to discussions with Oladipo, closing a deal at this point remains unlikely. But if the price is right, a team that could make sense for the All-Star guard would be the Philadelphia 76ers.

Philly needs a veteran guard who can call the plays on the floor and find open shots for young big names in Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid

But one thing that the 76ers may be wary about is the fact that Oladipo is coming off an injury.

Oladipo played only 19 games last season, averaging 14.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists. Though he appeared to be getting his groove back, it remains to be seen if the 6-foot-4 guard is back at 100% capacity.

Ironically, the names of Oladipo and Antetokounmpo were part of a speculated deal tied to the Heat. The scenario involved Tyler Herro who made a good account of himself last season.

A trade involving Oladipo is not expected to be enough to pull off a trade for the 20-year-old guard. But the case is different if Antetokounmpo is in the discussion.

Like Antetokoumpo, Oladipo is believed to be seeking a max contract, NBC Sports reported. This rebuffs previous reports claiming that the Pacers guard wanted out of Indiana.

If the Pacers fold on giving him a max deal, expect Oladipo to change zip codes very soon.
