  • Derrick Rose knows time is ticking in his NBA career
  • The New York Knicks could consider Ben Simmons to help Rose
  • Rose wants to reach the playoffs and win an NBA title

Derrick Rose is only 32, but most know that his legs are probably aged more than that.

The reason behind this is the countless injuries he has sustained through the years, something that has hampered him from completing a full NBA season.

The last couple of years saw the former NBA MVP weather adversity. He somehow recalled his old form and was once again pursued by several teams.

A lot of that happened with the Detroit Pistons although most know by now that he has moved to the New York Knicks.

The move made sense since it would reunite him with former coach Tom Thibodeau, probably the person who knows how to utilize him well. But before that NBA trade was sealed, Rose reportedly mentioned something to Pistons head coach Dwane Casey.

“Coach, I’ve only got so many miles left in my legs. I want to make sure I go to a situation where I have the chance to make the playoffs this year,” Rose allegedly said.

The statement is hardly surprising. At this point of his career, Rose should be winning an NBA title–something that he has yet to add to his list of accolades.

The Knicks are rolling, probably better compared to recent years. They have a promising and talented player in Julius Randle at the helm and a lot of young guys backing up.

Rose will not only be expected to play well but also be the team’s leader. Will this be enough?

The NBA trade deadline is more than a month away, and the Knicks could be looking for new faces to add to the mix.

One name that comes to mind is Ben Simmons of the Philadelphia 76ers. The former top pick has toned down his play under first-year head coach Doc Rivers although there have been no signs of the Australian wanting out.

While talented and someone who can do a lot, Simmons could be a big addition to the Knicks even if his shooting leaves a lot to be desired.

For now, it may be best for New York to stick with their core and think about adding more talent after this 2020-21 NBA season.

Thibodeau is likely to take it one step at a time. For now, New York addressed its target in the offseason by acquiring Rose.
