KEY POINTS

  • Clippers and Sixers are interested in Marcus Morris
  • Morris prefers to focus and help the Knicks this NBA season
  • Clippers loom as best option for Morris to possibly win an NBA title

Marcus Morris of the New York Knicks is fully aware that his name has been frequently mentioned in NBA trade talks. With the Knicks on course to another disappointing season, trading away the 30-year-old big man for future assets makes a lot of sense.

Several teams could put the 6-foot-8 forward to good use. Two teams who could field offers to the Knicks are the Los Angeles Clippers and the Philadelphia 76ers. According to Mark Berman of the New York Post, both teams are interested and have draft picks to offer.

The Clippers can dangle their 2020 NBA Draft first-round pick while the Sixers have multiple second-rounders. Due to salary cap complications, the need to insert a third team may be needed to make it work. That team could be the Atlanta Hawks but getting a Morris trade done will take a lot of work, NBC Sports reported.

Given the choice, Morris prefers to stick it out in Gotham. He alleges that he loves it in New York and is excited to help turn things around. He admits that he has heard of trade talks but is not paying attention to them. Being a veteran, he is keeping his focus in helping his current team despite toting a 10-25 win-loss record in the NBA Eastern Conference.

Unfortunately, Morris' future is not in his hands if the Knicks decide to pull the trigger. Assuming the inevitable, it would best to see where he fits in better.

With the Sixers, he could be part of a formidable frontline that already has Joel Embiid and Al Horford. Head coach Brett Brown could have one heck of a frontline and hopefully put a stop to their four-game losing streak.

However, Morris may want to think NBA title as well. The Clippers boast of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, one of the favored teams this season. Morris could be the perfect addition to head coach Doc Rivers' charges, bringing in the muscle and scoring when needed.

As of this writing, it will be interesting how the Clippers or the Sixers try to pull strings to make a Morris trade work. In a previous post, it was mentioned that a first-round pick is what would light up the interest of the Knicks. The Clippers do have that and could throw in some players like Maurice Harkless to make it work - financially.
