  • Some headway may be made into the Simmons situation after a long offseason of rumors

A small-market NBA team has reportedly made an offer for Philadelphia 76ers All-Star Ben Simmons.

NBA insider Brian Windhorst appeared on the “The Scoop” podcast and revealed the latest news on the Simmons front.

“I know of at least one other team who is a small market team that has made an offer and has a lot of interest and it just hasn’t gotten public yet,” said Windhorst.

Windhorst later mentioned that this small-market team “has a lot of interest” in Simmons and that there are around “four or five” teams who remain in pursuit of the Australian superstar.

The Simmons trade rumors have dominated the NBA rumor mill through much of the offseason after the Sixers' front office failed to move him early on.

Most teams have been linked to the 25-year-old, but the teams mentioned by Windhorst who remain in pursuit of Simmons could most likely be the Cleveland Cavaliers, Sacramento Kings, Golden State Warriors and Portland Trail Blazers.

The Warriors have been involved in talks with the Sixers but are yet to find a fair and realistic offer for both sides, according to The Athletic’s Anthony Slater.

NBA reporter Marc Stein notes that the Cavaliers have remained interested in acquiring Simmons, but observers believe it is a long shot since the Cavaliers will need to give up young star Collin Sexton and even big man Jarrett Allen in the deal.

The Blazers have been perpetually linked to the Sixers despite Damian Lillard saying that he wants to remain in Portland for the foreseeable future.

Sam Amick of The Athletic reported that the Kings discussed a deal for Simmons, but the Sixers are not budging from their asking price for him.

The whole Simmons situation has been beaten to the ground by this point but with Windhorst’s report that a small-market team made an offer, there may be some headway into a deal very soon.
