  • Liverpool won a dramatic match against West Ham Monday
  • The Reds are four wins away from winning the Premier League title

Liverpool FC defeated West Ham 3-2 Monday and equaled Manchester City’s record of 18 consecutive match wins in the Premier League. The Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, after the win at Anfield, admitted that he never thought his side could achieve that.

Reigning champions Man City won a record 18 straight games between August and December 2017.

It was for the first time in Premier League this season, Liverpool were trailing at Anfield. The home side took an early lead, courtesy of Georginio Wijnaldum’s header but David Moyes’ boys responded quickly. Three minutes later, Issa Diop scored the equalizer to bring West Ham right back into the game.

Just nine minutes after the half-time break, substitute Pablo Fornals put West Ham into the lead against Liverpool, who have not lost a match in the ongoing Premier League season. It was Anfield night and Klopp’s side was not going to give up that easily.

Liverpool’s star forward Mohamed Salah netted the equalizer for the hosts when West Ham’s gloveman Fabianski allowed the goal through his legs. It was yet another assists for Trent Alexander-Arnold as Sadio Mane turned in a lob from the former at the 81st minute to seal a spectacular comeback for the Premier League leaders.

Speaking about his side’s performances and the special record in the post-match interview, Klopp said, "It's so special. The numbers are incredible, so difficult. I said we wanted to write our own stories, create our own history."

"Obviously, the boys took that really seriously and that is all cool but just not too important at the moment. We are just in the situation and want to recover and prepare for the next game. I couldn't have wished for a better position to go into these last 11 games. I never thought it was possible but each one of [the victories are] really difficult.”

Liverpool, who have bagged 79 from possible 81 points, are now only four victories away from lifting their first Premier League trophy in 30 years.
