A new handset named Sony Xperia A4 has reportedly been launched by the Japanese tech giant for the carrier NTT Docomo. There are reasons to believe that it could be the long-awaited Sony Xperia Z4 Compact.

According to STJS Gadgets Portal, the new Sony Xperia A4 is tied to the model number “SO-04G.” In the meantime, the predecessor Xperia A2 apparently came with model number “SO-04F” and was launched as Xperia Z3 Compact worldwide. Hence, the Xperia A4 could very well be the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact. To top it off, the official Website of Docomo has listed the Xperia Z4 and the smaller Xperia A4 models side by side and thereby, adding credence to the report.

As far as the key Xperia A4/Xperia Z4 Compact specifications go, the handset will reportedly flaunt a compact 4.6-inch Triluminous display aided by 1,280 x 720 pixels screen resolution. Needless to say, this display configuration is similar to the predecessor Xperia Z3 Compact. When it comes to hardware component, the upcoming handset will apparently be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 SoC and not the latest Snapdragon 810 chip. On the software front, the handset will run on Android 5.0 Lollipop OS.

Furthermore, the Xperia A4 will be backed by a modest 2 GB of RAM configuration and will apparently come equipped with 16 GB of built-in storage capacity. When it comes to camera configuration, the device will maintain the same 20.7 MP rear-facing camera unit, which is now synonymous with Xperia Z line of devices. Notably, the main camera will flaunt a Sony G lens with f/2.0 aperture. In addition, there will also be a secondary camera unit with 2.2 MP shooter for selfies. Meanwhile, the whole under the hood configurations will reportedly be powered by a 2,600 mAh battery unit. Upon release, the device can be availed in Grey, Pink, Blue and White hues.

In the meantime, GSM Arena says, while the predecessor Xperia Z3 Compact comes with a glass body, the Xperia A4 features a matte-effect laden plastic back panel. Moreover, the Xperia Z4 reportedly differs from the Xperia Z3 Compact in size. The A4 apparently comes with the following dimension 128 x 66 x 9.1 mm, whereas the Z3 Compact measures 127.3 x 64.9 x 8.6 mm.

On the other hand, the Xperia A4/Xperia Z4 Compact release date is reportedly tipped for June and the device is now available for pre-order in Japan. Therefore, it is a matter of time before Sony announces the international variant of the A4.
