Mobile game developer Jam City has released a brand new teaser trailer for “Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery.” The developer also shared more details about the upcoming mobile RPG, which is slated for release sometime later this 2018.

The new teaser trailer for “Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery” gives fans a first look at what the actual game might look like. The trailer also teases some of the things that players will be able to do in the game, like learning spells, attending classes, choosing friends and battling rivals.

The new “Hogwarts Mystery” trailer also shows that players will be attending classes with familiar Hogwarts professors like Hagrid, McGonagall and Snape. Since the game’s storyline takes place before the events of the “Harry Potter” books and movies, the titular character is nowhere to be seen.

“Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is a role playing experience about magic, friendship, and life as a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry,” Jam City co-founder and CEO Chris DeWolfe said. “We can't wait to give fans a first look at the game at A Celebration of Harry Potter, and this spring players will be able to explore Hogwarts fully in their journey toward becoming a witch or wizard.”

As for when exactly “Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery” fits into the timeline, the game takes place between Harry Potter’s birth and his enrollment at Hogwarts. Jam City revealed in its press release that this is a period in the world of Harry Potter when Nymphadora Tonks and Bill Weasley were still students at Hogwarts. Jam City COO Josh Yguado did confirm last month that the game will take place in the mid-1980s, sometime after the end of the First Wizarding Wars.

“Hogwarts Mystery” features an avatar customization system that allows players to change and upgrade their avatar as they progress through the game. Players will also be able to choose their own pet. Like in the first year students in the movies and the books, players will be sorted to one of the four Hogwarts houses before going through their “years” in Hogwarts.

The developer also revealed new information on what fans can expect from the game. Apparently, “Hogwarts Mystery” will feature large plot arcs and smaller stories. One example given by the developer are relationship quests. The game comes with a new encounter system where the player’s decisions will have an impact on their quests. The player’s choices will also change how other characters in the game interact with the player.

Jam City didn’t give out any specifics on the storyline, but it did say that players will have to build their skills, solve mysteries and go on adventures. When players improve their magical skills in the game, they will unlock new locations, spells and other magical abilities.

Jam City still hasn’t given an exact release date for “Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery,” but fans should expect it to arrive this spring for Android and iOS devices. For fans who are already very excited, they can go to the official “Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery” website to pre-register for the game.
