KEY POINTS

  • The New York Knicks are on track to make the NBA Playoffs for the first time since 2013
  • The Knicks are currently fourth in the Eastern Conference
  • Julius Randle has been spectacular for the Knicks all season

If you’re a New York Knicks fan, there’s quite a few reasons to celebrate these days.

For starters, the Knicks may have found themselves a legitimate franchise player in the form of Julius Randle.

While Randle’s arrival in The Big Apple was met with skepticism at first, the seventh-year big man has been balling out as of late, putting up career-high per-game averages in points (23.4), rebounds (11.0) and assists (5.5).

Randle’s stellar production has helped earn him his first All-Star selection as he was chosen as one of the reserves in the Eastern Conference pool.

Randle becomes the first Knick to be selected to the All-Star Game since Kristaps Porzingis back in the 2017-2018 season.

Apart from Randle, guys like RJ Barret, Derrick Rose, Elfrid Payton, Alec Burks, and rookie revelation Immanuel Quickley have managed to form a solid supporting cast, with all of them averaging double-digits in scoring.

Perhaps the biggest cause for celebration for the Knickerbockers faithful, however, is that they’re heading into March with an above-.500 record and in solo-fourth place in the Eastern Conference.

The Knicks are currently at 18-17 and riding a three-game winning streak. They have won 7 of their last 11 games.

Following the Knicks’ 110-107 win over the Indiana Pacers on Saturday, Knicks fans were seen celebrating in the streets. On Sunday, they blew out the Detroit Pistons, 109-90.

If things continue to go well for the Knicks, they are on track to make the postseason for the first time since 2013. In that year, the Carmelo Anthony-led Knicks finished second in the Eastern Conference with a 54-28 record.

The Knicks went on to defeat the Boston Celtics, 4-2, in the first round before bowing out in the conference semi-finals against the Indiana Pacers, 4-2.

If the playoffs started today, the Knicks would have homecourt advantage against the No. 5-seeded Miami Heat in the opening round.
