“Call of Duty” has been a long-running game franchise that’s seen many installments since it was first released. Originally set in world war 2, it has since jumped to more modern settings starting with the release of “Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.”

Now, a new installment is about to be announced soon, and if the leaks are true, the fourth installment of the “Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare” series is strangely named, Kotaku reported.

A leak coming from a YouTuber named LongSensation claimed that the 2019 installment of “Call of Duty” will simply be called “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.” Some might laugh at the thought since “Modern Warfare” was “Call of Duty 4,” but it seems like the leaker wasn’t joking at all.

A news editor for Eurogamer confirmed the leaker’s claim, saying he has heard about the information from other sources. He claimed that the title isn’t actually a secret; rather, it’s an “open secret” that some people already know. He added that a former developer himself gave clues about it, wearing a shirt that said “Call of Duty MW.”

He added that the new “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare” game should not be confused with “Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare” and “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered.” Although the new game has a title similar to the two entries that were released in 2007 and 2016, it’s a totally different game.

Kotaku also confirmed the leaker’s claim, saying it has heard the same information from anonymous sources who are knowledgeable about the matter. The new “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare” game is developed by Infinity Ward, will be a reboot of the original “Modern Warfare,” and will be released this coming fall.

Kataku added that the game will be “heavy on troubling, realistic emotional moments, very much inspired by the controversial No Russian campaign” featured in “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.” This controversial campaign put players in a situation where they had to massacre civilians in an airport.

Some Reddit users claim that “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare” will have some “old stuff back with some new changes,” see the return of Captain Price, and will put a lot of emphasis on night vision.

While these leaks can sound credible, they are still rumors until the game developers themselves make an official announcement soon. Stay tuned for more updates.
