KEY POINTS

  • A win over the Chargers has not changed the Ravens' focus on capturing a title
  • Strong, balanced performances on both ends of the field led to the 34-6 victory
  • Lamar Jackson broke Dan Marino's record for most wins under the age of 25

Even after a strong start to the season, the Baltimore Ravens have their eyes set on a much bigger goal.

Following their dominant 34-6 win over the Los Angeles Chargers, the team is not letting their recent run of success get to their heads.

Coach John Harbaugh took to the podium and was asked how important this win was.

“I don't think it says anything long-term. It just says that we had a really good day today, and we played the way we needed to play in this game today. [The defense] stopped the run, stopped the screen, and stopped the controlled passing game as much as possible,” Harbaugh calmly responded.

Baltimore had a balanced outing against the Chargers with the offense putting up points on the board and the defense making multiple stops in crucial situations, highlighted by cornerback Marlon Humphrey’s two stops at fourth down.

Defensive coordinator Don “Wink” Martindale made all the right calls on defense, limiting the Chargers to 208 yards of offense while offensive coordinator Greg Roman committing misfires in the passing game and electing to have more rushing plays for a total of 327 yards.

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson led the offense with 167 passing yards and one touchdown, and the running back group supported his efforts with three touchdowns.

Jackson also got the 35th win of his career, breaking Dan Marino’s longstanding record of having the most games won by a quarterback under age 25.

While the Ravens may be in a celebratory mood for his accomplishment, the 2019 NFL MVP echoed his coach’s sentiments in hinting that the team is more interested in “something else”--that is the Lombardi trophy.

“It's a lot of [games in the] season left. We just want to keep winning. Just keep it a game at a time. That's all,” Jackson remarked after being asked about his relaxed demeanor.

Beating the Chargers further solidified the Ravens’ grasp on the AFC, holding a record of five wins and one loss.

The Ravens will look to extend their win streak to six as they welcome AFC North rivals Cincinnati Bengals to the M&T Bank Stadium for Week 7 before their Bye Week on Week 8.
