Jamal Adams to the Dallas Cowboys: that’s the latest trade rumor that has picked up steam during the 2020 NFL offseason.

In reality, there doesn’t appear to be any deal looming. According to multiple reports, Dallas isn’t actively pursuing Adams, and New York has no plans to trade its best defensive player in the near future.

But the speculation might remain for some time.

It wasn’t long ago that the Cowboys did try to acquire Adams. Dallas made an offer to New York at the 2019 trade deadline. Adams was upset that the Jets even entertained a trade proposal, and the relationship between the two sides still seems to be fractured.

ESPN reported last week that Adams wants a long-term contract extension, and the team is unwilling to give him a lucrative deal right now. The 24-year-old is reportedly open to the idea of being sent to a team that will give him a new contract.

Adams is from Texas. When the safety thought he was being shopped by the Jets in October, he named the Cowboys as a team he would “love to go to.”

If the Jets do consider trading Adams, they would likely ask for a first-round pick and either another high draft pick or a promising young player.

Bovada has handicapped Dallas as Adam’s most likely destination in the event of a trade. The sportsbook gives Adams -200 odds to be with the Jets in Week 1 of the 2020 season. The Cowboys are second with +450 odds to have Adams on their roster.

New York selected Adams with the No.6 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. He was a Second-Team All-Pro selection in 2018 and made First-Team All-Pro last season.

Adams is signed through 2021 with approximately $13.4 million left on his rookie contract.
