  • NFL execs are not convinced that DK Metcalf is unavailable for trade
  • Metcalf has proven to be one of the best young receivers in the league today
  • The Seahawks want to keep him until they find their next quarterback

The Seattle Seahawks have remained adamant that wide receiver DK Metcalf would not be traded, but a report now refutes that claim.

ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler reported on SportsCenter that other league executives do not fully believe that Metcalf is off the table at all.

“Seattle has said publicly they have no intention to trade him. But the execs I talk to keep bringing him up that maybe they would either be willing to move on at the right price or that Metcalf would welcome a change. So, something is going on here; it's just hard to figure out what,” Fowler said as quoted by Bleacher Report.

“But he's got one year left on his rookie deal. He would need a new contract as part of a trade. That's the tricky part."

Metcalf, 24, burst onto the scene after being drafted by the Seahawks with the 64th pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, setting new Seahawks records in terms of most receiving yards in a rookie debut against the Cincinnati Bengals and yards in a season with 1,303 the following year.

He then etched himself in the NFL’s history books by putting up the most receiving yards by a rookie in a playoff game (160) versus the Philadelphia Eagles during their 2020 NFL Wild Card matchup.

The Mississippi native has had a massive time in the NFL thus far with 216 receptions for 3,170 yards and 29 touchdowns through his first three years.

However, the loss of Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos might have the Seahawks evaluating whether Metcalf could somewhat replicate his performance thus far with Drew Lock as his quarterback.

Teams like the Kansas City Chiefs and the Green Bay Packers, who lost their key receivers in Tyreek Hill and Davante Adams respectively this offseason, could likely be the franchises who have the most interest in Metcalf.

Those considering making a move for Metcalf should hope that he does not go searching for a contract similar to what Adams and Hill received.

Seattle will want to hold on to all of their cards this year as they search for their next long-term quarterback, so a Metcalf trade might not be likely, but it may also happen if the Seahawks receive the right offer.
