KEY POINTS

  • Tim Tebow's return to the NFL  is reportedly nearing its completion
  • His comeback is not spared from criticism
  • Tebow's old coach is seen as the main reason why the Jaguar is taking a chance on the former Heisman Trophy winner

Some may find it crazy, while others feel it would be risky to take another chance at Tim Tebow.

But if reports are to be believed, it seems the Jacksonville Jaguars are ready to try that and seal a reunion with the former Heisman Trophy winner and his old coach Urban Meyers.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, Tebow is expected to sign with the Jaguars in a one-year deal.

However, the 33-year-old Filipino-American will be making his NFL return playing a different position–Tight End.

For those who followed Tebow’s NFL run, he was best known as a quarterback.

There are several factors to consider. One of them is the fact that Tebow has not played an NFL game since 2015 when he was last seen with the Philadelphia Eagles.

He was cut in the preseason and proceeded to pursue a baseball career from there, something that did not exactly pan out.

Now, he gets a chance to return to the game he first played professionally with odds against him.

But one thing that Jaguars fans are hoping is that playing the same position that Tebow held when he was with Meyers in Florida can show a different kind of player.

But then again, there is his age worth considering.

Tebow’s return to the NFL remains unofficial until Jacksonville makes an announcement.

But this early, not many are convinced that Tebow can help the Jaguars’ cause. That job will be left to Meyers, someone who knows his former pupil too well.

The only thing certain is that NFL rookie Trevor Lawrence is expected to call the plays for the Jaguars.

Ironically, the former Clemson Tiger has not been spared from controversy. It appears his comments on the mentality going into his professional career were taken out of context when the 21-year-old said he doesn’t have anything to prove and doesn’t have any huge chip on his shoulder.

Pundits feel that his comments should not be deemed controversial with the incoming quarterback simply being transparent.

Lawrence has been tipped to succeed since high school, but he may need to keep his comments in check.
