The National Football League (NFL) free agency is in full swing despite the official start of the league year is not until March 13, 4 p.m. EST when players can actually begin put pen-to-paper to their new contracts. A number of deals have been already struck with them likely to be made official on Wednesday.

Nick Foles signed the biggest deal of the offseason thus far with CBC Sports reporting that he agreed to a four-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars worth around $88 million. $50.125 million is said to be guaranteed to the quarterback with the deal expected to rise to $102 million with incentives.

The 30-year-old was released by the Philadelphia Eagles, which he led to the Super Bowl title in 2017 and also helped them make the playoffs in the 2018-19 campaign. It was expected that they place a franchise tag on the quarterback, but the Eagles let Foles enter free agency and he will now replace Blake Bortles as the Jaguars’ franchise signal caller.

Bortles threw 103 touchdown passes in five seasons for the Jaguars, but his time with the franchise will be largely known for his inconsistency and his 75 interceptions in as many career games. The Jacksonville franchise is reportedly set to trade him in the coming week before a $1 million roster bonus comes due on Sunday.

The Washington Redskins continue to strengthen during the offseason and are said to have reached an agreement with former New York Giants safety Landon Collins. He was expected to sign a six-year deal worth $84 million with $45 million guaranteed.

The Redskins’ defense ranked 17th last season in the NFL and Collins was a much-needed addition especially since he leads the NFL for a number of tackles among safeties since 2015 with 437. The Giants could have given him the franchise tag but opted not to allow him to move on via free agency.

Meanwhile, the Oakland Raiders continue to strengthen their offensive line following the addition of wide receiver Antonio Brown from the Pittsburgh Steelers over the weekend. They are said to have reached an agreement with offensive tackle Trent Brown over a four-year deal worth $66 million and his guaranteed payday of $36.75 million, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, is the richest contract ever for an offensive lineman.

Brown joins the Raiders with a Super Bowl ring from his time with the New England Patriots and will certainly strengthen their offensive line, which allowed for 30 sacks in pass protection last season – the most in the NFL.
