KEY POINTS

  • Deebo Samuel hinted that he wants out of the San Francisco 49ers
  • His ability to be a receiver and play-action runner has made him desirable to most teams
  • Three possible destinations for him include the Packers, Ravens and Chargers

The San Francisco 49ers are at risk of losing wide receiver Deebo Samuel after the player reportedly made it clear that he wants out, and it may be time for the franchise to shop him around.

NFL insider Adam Schefter reported on the development on ESPN.

”San Francisco (49ers) wants to pay Deebo Samuel, but Deebo Samuel is the one who scrubbed the 49ers’ logos off his social media pages. [He] is the one that basically made it known that he wanted to move on. … Deebo Samuel is the one who put a halt to everything for right now,” Schefter said of the situation.

Entering the final year of his rookie deal, it is understandable why the Niners desperately want to lock up Samuel as the star receiver put up 1,770 yards and 14 touchdowns last season.

Samuel’s ability to catch passes and be the designated run fake on play-action calls has made him one of the most desirable and flexible wide receivers.

Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers made moves to ensure that they have enough flexibility to give them cap relief, which includes trading away receiver Davante Adams.

With back-to-back NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers needing weapons, the Packers front office would do well to go after someone like Adams to allow Rodgers and the team to hopefully find some postseason success.

This could mean that they will have to part with multiple draft picks and possibly someone like receiver Amari Rodgers to entice the 49ers.

Baltimore Ravens

Making a trade for someone like Samuel should be a no-brainer for a franchise like the Baltimore Ravens after they lost Sammy Watkins to the aforementioned Packers and cut Miles Boykin.

Lining Samuel up alongside the emergent Rashod Bateman and Marquise “Hollywood” Brown gives quarterback Lamar Jackson multiple weapons to go deep with.

With the Ravens having 10 draft picks in this year’s edition of the draft, they could strike gold and pickup Samuel off the Niners’ hands.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Charges are doing their best to stay competitive and their moves this offseason certainly indicate that, including the acquisition of outside linebacker Khalil Mack from the Chicago Bears.

Having Mike Williams as their main receiver and Samuel serving as his tag team partner alongside Keenan Allen has the potential of giving the Chargers a strong point-scoring machine.
