  • A new report claims that Nvidia cancelled the GeForce RTX 3080 20 GB and RTX 3070 16 GB
  • The company has not yet issued a statement about the report

Nvidia informed its board partners that it would no longer launch the GeForce RTX 3080 20GB and the RTX 3070 16 GB graphics cards, according to a new report.

Citing a couple of independent sources, Videocardz reported that Nvidia canceled the launch of the GeForce RTX 3080 20 GB and the RTX 3070 16 GB this December. While some fans are anticipating a potential delay because of supply crunch rumors, it appears that Videocardz’s sources clearly stated that the above-mentioned SKUs were not postponed but have been canceled.

Earlier, Nvidia canceled the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti model. If the report is accurate, it means the RTX 3070 16 GB and the RTX 3080 20 GB are joining the list. The exact reason for the SKUs’ cancelation is unknown, but industry watchers are speculating that it could be due to a couple of major reasons.

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 30 series has a tight supply because of the unexpected demand that the company could not fulfill. According to its CEO, Nvidia could resolve the GeForce RTX 30 series supply issue by 2021. A report from major U.K. retailer Proshop revealed that the company could only meet less than 10% of the retailer’s GeForce RTX 30 series’ order.

Another reason for the cancelation of the GeForce RTX 3080 20 GB and RTX 3070 16 GB could be due to low GDDR6X yield issues. It is worth mentioning that Nvidia’s plan for the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti remains the same. It is still on track for its mid-November release.

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 20GB was anticipated to be the company’s response to AMD Radeon RX 6900 series that features Navi 21 GPU. The upcoming AMD SKUs feature 16 GB of memory. For now, this information about the cancelation of the GeForce RTX 3080 20 GB and the RTX 3070 16 GB is still unconfirmed and unofficial. It is safer to take these details with a pinch of salt.
