For the first few days of the 2012 Olympics, the United States has been neck-and-neck with China for the most total medals.

As of early Tuesday afternoon, both countries lead the way with 19 apiece. China has the advantage in gold medals with 10 to the USA's seven.

The U.S. has had a few disappointments since Friday's opening ceremonies.

Jordyn Wieber was the favorite to win the women's gymnastics all-around event, but didn't even qualify for the event. Michael Phelps has missed out on a few opportunities to win gold, after winning eight in 2008 in Beijing.

Despite some upsets, a few U.S. athletes have surprised and finished in first in their individual event. Both the men and women have be performed well, most notably the swimming and skeet shooting competitions.
