  • OnePlus Watch promises a remarkable two-week battery life
  • The price starts at $159
  • An iOS version of the OnePlus Watch companion app will be available later

After teasing the design of its first smart wearable, OnePlus has now officially announced its smartwatch, along with this year's flagship smartphones — The OnePlus 9 Pro and the OnePlus 9. Preorders for the two handsets will begin on March 26 and they will be available from April 2, while the OnePlus Watch will go on sale on April 14.

The OnePlus Watch promises a remarkable two-week battery life and the company claims it will last up to a week even with heavy usage. The price starts at $159.

OnePlus also highlights its Warp Charge technology in its 402 mAh battery, which The Verge says will give users a week of battery life after charging for 20 minutes. Instead of the struggling Wear OS software, the smartwatch uses RTOS (real-time operating system) that has been used by other smartwatches such as those from Fitbit.

Owners will have to download a companion app on their Android smartphone to access some of the OnePlus Watch features. An iOS version will likely become available in the future. Once paired, the integrated microphone and speaker on the wearable will support calls.

It seems one of the downsides of RTOS-based proprietary operating systems is the lack of third-party app support and watch faces. OnePlus attempts to compensate for this shortcoming through a sizeable selection of personalization options.

The smartwatch can also function as a remote for the OnePlus TV, which runs on Android TV software. An interesting feature is that the OnePlus Watch can automatically turn off the television when its sensors determine that the wearer has fallen asleep.

According to the spec sheet provided by the company, the round 316L stainless steel case of the OnePlus Watch measures 46.4 mm x 46.4 mm x 10.9 mm and is paired to a fluoroelastomer strap. It is equipped with a 1.39-inch round AMOLED with a resolution of 454 x 454 pixels and 326PPI.

The smartwatch will also have heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen monitoring, activity monitoring and sleep monitoring options. A special version of the OnePlus Watch with a cobalt alloy construction is also in the works and will be released soon, the company said.
