  • PSG joins race for the services of Matteo Guendouzi of Arsenal F.C.
  • Villareal remains favorite to land Guendouzi because of Unai Emery
  • Matteo Guendouzi rift with Mikel Arteta nowhere near of getting fixed

Matteo Guendouzi is headed out the door and several teams are interested. The latest club joining the Guendouzi sweepstakes is Paris Saint-Germain, a team that has kept tabs with the situation of the controversial midfielder.

Reports of PSG's interest comes from football.london. They reveal that Les Parisiens have been monitoring his situation ever since he left the academy in 2014. PSG considered making a move on the French player before he moved to Arsenal F.C. in 2018. Now, it appears they will try again and potentially have better chances.

However, the pursuit of Guendouzi will not be easy. Contrary to the belief of most that clubs would be wary of getting the French national due to his attitude, the 21-year-old has his share of suitors. Aside from PSG, there is Barcelona, Juventus and Villareal. But of the clubs expressing interest, Villareal is believed to be the favorite mainly because of Unai Emery.

As mentioned in a previous post, Emery and Guendouzi go way back. Both were together at Arsenal and it was Emery who got the French player to move to Emirates Stadium and the manager to use him extensively. Unfortunately, the transition to Mikel Arteta has been a rough one for the 21-year-old midfielder.

Things just went from bad to worse for Guendouzi. The final straw was that incident involving Neal Maupay of Brighton. The skirmish did not sit well with Arteta and Guendouzi has not seen action since the football restart.

Guendouzi continues to train alone and has seemingly defied calls by Arteta for him to align with the direction of the Gunners. And at the way things are going, an imminent exit this summer looms. The French player has already informed management he will leave Emirates Stadium, clearly indicating that his rift with Arteta is beyond fixing.

Guendouzi was part of a deal the Gunners were trying to arrange with Atletico Madrid. The deal involved Thomas Partey, a target of Arsenal. Unfortunately, the Spanish club preferred a straight cash deal and are not entertaining any player swaps.

Guendouzi and Mesut Ozil are two players who the Gunners are expected to sell this summer. Like Guendouzi, Ozil has been drawing interest. Unfortunately, the German plans to finish his contract with the Gunners although he could be loaned out next season.
