KEY POINTS

  • Guendouzi reunion with Emery makes sense
  • Guendouzi imminently headed out Arsenal door
  • Emery could help get Guendouzi football career back on track

Matteo Guendouzi appears bent on bolting Arsenal F.C. and the French football player knows he has options. One of them may be Villareal CF which is now handled by former Gunners manager Unai Emery. It appears the 48-year-old manager has Guendouzi in his radar and a reunion would make sense.

Guendouzi has not seen action since that celebrated skirmish involving Neal Maupay of Brighton. This has raised speculations on the French national likely to move to a new club after this season. And based on the latest report from Mercato, Villareal could be that team.

Emery was recently appointed by the club and has an interest in getting his former player to join him at Estadio de la Ceramica. Emery is the same person who got Guendouzi from Lorient in 2018 and extensively fielded him when he was still at Emirates Stadium.

Discussions on a possible loan move for Guendouzi are already underway with an option to buy. Aside from Villareal, another club interested in the French player is Barcelona. Between the two, the temperamental football player could progress better reuniting with his former coach.

Between Guendouzi and Arteta, it appears the rift is nowhere near being resolved. Aside from jawing with Maupay, the French player also gloated about salaries at the time. This drew the ire of Arteta, emphasizing it was not the kind of culture that he was trying to establish with the Gunners.

Arteta issued challenges to the Guendouzi, telling him to align with the vision he had for Arsenal. Unfortunately, that has not gotten anywhere with Guendouzi more likely to depart this summer. He has already informed Arsenal management of his plans.

Unless some dramatic turnaround changes, it appears Guendouzi is headed out the door. In fact, he may not be the only one. Another player who holds an uncertain future with the Gunners is Mesut Ozil.

Ozil has not played a single minute since the football restart despite being healthy. Arteta says the decision is tactical but pundits see something different brewing. The German holds a hefty contract and the belief is that he will be dealt off after this season. The only question there is whether this will be through a full transfer or via a loan deal.
