Fox aired the Season 1 premiere of “The Passage,” its TV show adaptation of Justin Cronin’s novel series of the same name, on Monday, but some characters from the book were missing.

If you’re a fan of the original source material and are hoping to see more of your favorite characters come to life, some of the stars and the show creator told International Business times that you can rest assured about that happening.

While speaking with IBT at New York Comic Con in October, creator and executive producer Liz Heldens said she “was unable to put Lacey…in the pilot because [she] just couldn’t figure out how to,” but that she will be on “The Passage” later in Season 1.

“The experience of reading the book, to me, it just felt like that first section was so much about Brad [Mark-Paul Gosselaar] and Amy [Saniyya Sidney], and that’s the thing that felt like the beating heart of the show,” she said. “So, I wasn’t able to kind of get Lacey in in the beginning, but we did find a way to put her in later. That made me really happy. So, I feel like we’re not leaving anything on the table.”

Gosselaar and Emmanuelle Chriqui (Dr. Lila Kyle) expanded on what role Lacey, who’s a convent nun who bonded with Amy (played by Saniyya Sidney onscreen) in the books, will play when she does finally arrive on the show.

“Lacey comes back, and for people of the books that was a very fun character,” the “Pitch” alum told IBT.

“Lacey and Lila, we come together, and we take on some stuff,” Chriqui teased.

Gosselaar went on to commend Heldens on how she’s going about adapting the novel series, while also revealing another character from the book who will be making an appearance soon.

“The beauty of what Liz has done is that there’s characters that are in the books that are beloved and she inserts them in a new way but still keeps the roots the same,” he said. “It’s kind of fantastic what she’s done. [The book’s Deputy Director of the Department of Special Weapons Horace] Guilder comes back, and all these characters. I’m like, ‘That’s Guilder from the book!’ He’s working in episode 5 right now. So, that’s fun.”

Enjoy seeing these characters, as well as others, from the book come to life onscreen as Season 1 of “The Passage” continues. Episode 2 airs on Fox on Monday at 9 p.m. EST.
