KEY POINTS

  • Pedri scored the lone goal in Barca's 1-0 win over Seville
  • It was Pedri's third goal of the 2021-22 season
  • Barcelona are now unbeaten in 13 games, across competitions

Pedri scored an "extraordinary" goal in FC Barcelona’s 1-0 win over Sevilla in the La Liga on Sunday.

The young midfielder once again produced a match-winning performance for Barcelona. Last month, he scored the equalizer against Turkish club Galatasaray FC before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang netted the winner in Barcelona’s Round of 16-second leg to book a place in the last-eight of the Europa League.

Pedri’s goal on Sunday marked his third strike of the season and it helped the Catalans secure three important points. With the victory at Camp Nou, Xavi Hernandez’s side climbed to No. 2 in the 2021-22 La Liga table. Barcelona are now level on points with Sevilla and Atletico Madrid but have a game in hand.

When Xavi took over Barcelona’s charge last November, Barcelona were struggling at the ninth spot in the La Liga table. The former club captain’s arrival has turned the tables around for Barcelona as the Spanish club is now unbeaten in 13 games, across all competitions.

In a post-match interview, Xavi hailed Pedri, saying the teenage sensation has "no comparison."

"He is a superlative player. He has scored an extraordinary goal. He makes a difference. It is a spectacle to watch him play. And he is only 19 years old. He has no comparison. It's a transcendental goal. It's pure adrenaline. I had the feeling that it was going to come," Xavi was quoted by Goal, as saying in the interview.

Xavi overall praised his team’s performance after the match and hailed the importance of the result.

"I am a positive person, I believe in work, effort, sacrifice, and collective work. We are very good, we are supportive, and everyone runs and presses. With this base, the results have to come. We are in the best moment of the season. Today we dominated a super team, the best in the league defensively. We won 1-0 and it could have been more. Perhaps we failed to make decisions, we should have scored earlier. It’s a six-point win," added Xavi, according to Diario Sport.
