Sunday’s game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills is probably the best matchup in Week 8 of the 2019 NFL season. It features the schedule’s smallest point spread with both teams looking to potentially pull within a half-game of first place in their respective divisions.

Buffalo is a 1.5-point home favorite against the Eagles, according to the latest betting line at OddsShark. The over/under is 43.

The Bills have easily had a better season than the Eagles. With a 5-1 record, only the New England Patriots have a better winning percentage in the AFC. The Bills even gave the Patriots a challenge, losing 16-10 to the defending champs in a close Week 4 matchup.

The Eagles have been one of the league’s most disappointing teams through seven weeks. An embarrassing 37-10 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on “Sunday Night Football” dropped Philadelphia to second place in the division.

Dallas is the clear team to beat in the NFC East. Philadelphia was considered to be one of the conference’s top Super Bowl contenders not long ago. If they don’t turn things around quickly, the Eagles won’t even be contending for a playoff spot in a few weeks.

Philadelphia has a good chance to right the ship, at least temporarily, Sunday. A Buffalo team that’s won a lot of close games might not be so fortunate to escape with a victory when the Eagles come to town.

The Miami Dolphins nearly picked up their first win of the season when they visited Buffalo in Week 7. Miami actually had the ball near the goal line with a 14-9 lead late in the third quarter. A few turnovers later and the Bills won 31-21 in a game that was much closer than the score indicated.

Most of Buffalo’s victories look something like that, with the Bills making second-half comebacks to beat bad teams week after week.

The Bills erased a 13-point, fourth-quarter deficit to win their season opener against the New York Jets, who have just one victory on the season. In Week 3, Buffalo needed a touchdown in the final two minutes to beat the Cincinnati Bengals, who join the Dolphins in Week 8 as the NFL’s only winless teams. The Bills beat the Tennessee Titans 14-7 in Week 5, defeating another team with a losing record that has since benched their starting quarterback.

Buffalo hasn’t beaten a team that’s currently above .500. They haven’t even beaten a quarterback that has more than two wins this season.

Carson Wentz is 3-4 in what’s been an up-and-down season. He probably won’t put up big numbers against one of the NFL’s best defenses.

He’s still much better than any quarterback Buffalo has beaten in 2019.

The Eagles’ defense has let them down in each defeat, allowing an average of 31.5 points in the team’s four losses. The Bills’ offense hasn’t produced 30 points once this season.

Josh Allen hasn’t thrown for more than 253 yards in a game. He’s got the same number of passing touchdowns as interceptions.

Maybe this is the week that Philadelphia’s secondary doesn’t get completely exposed.

Wentz hasn’t lost three games in a row since he was a rookie. Look for the Philadelphia’s quarterback and defense to play much better than they did in Dallas.
