The Philadelphia Phillies won’t play their weekend series with the Toronto Blue Jays after a Phillies’ coach and member of the clubhouse staff on Thursday tested positive for the coronavirus. The team has canceled all activities at Citizens Bank Park until further notice.

“Our plans right now are to stay put and let MLB work through whatever they're working through,” Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo told reporters. “We're not going to Philadelphia. Those games have been postponed. ... We're going to talk to the Nationals, see if we can work out here. If they say yes, we'll stay and work out until MLB tells us where to go next.”

Every Phillies’ player continues to test negative for COVID-19.

Many Philadelphia employees only learned of the weekend’s postponements through the media, according to The Athletic. Some players and coaches were at the ballpark when the news was made public, while others had not yet arrived for workouts.

The Phillies join the Miami Marlins as the second MLB team to have their entire week of games postponed. Miami’s season has temporarily been suspended in light of 17 Marlins’ players reportedly testing positive for COVID-19 since Friday.

Philadelphia hosted Miami for a three-game series this past weekend.

The Phillies and Blue Jays had been scheduled to play a doubleheader Saturday and another game Sunday. The Friday night contest between the two teams was postponed because of the coronavirus outbreak.

It’s become increasingly unlikely that both Philadelphia and Miami will play a full 60-game schedule this season.
