Popeyes is revving up Chicken Sandwich Wars of 2022 with a new spicy rendition that it hopes will be as successful as the popular poultry sandwich it launched in 2019.

The chicken chain will begin offering its new Buffalo Ranch Chicken Sandwich at its restaurants nationwide on Tuesday. The sandwich sells for $4.99 and will give rewards members an extra 150 points when it is ordered via the Popeyes app or at Popeyes.com.

The Buffalo Ranch Chicken Sandwich has an all-new sauce that features a mix of buttermilk ranch and buffalo sauce. The sauce tops Popeyes’ hand-battered and breaded chicken – the same one used in its regular chicken sandwich - and it is all served on a buttered brioche bun with pickles.

Back in 2019, Popeyes introduced its current Chicken Sandwich to great fanfare, erupting in what was later dubbed the Chicken Sandwich Wars of 2019 against its rival Chick-fil-A. Long lines formed at Popeye restaurants as customers looked to get a taste of what is now considered the chain's iconic item.

The Louisiana-based restaurant quickly sold out of its traditional chicken sandwich within a few weeks of its debut, but customers were determined to taste the new menu item, showing up in droves when Popeyes launched it again a few months later as the chain secured more supplies to make it.

“Two years ago, our Chicken Sandwich reintroduced the world to our chicken mastery, and we have not stopped innovating since. We have a lot of fun experimenting with new flavors in our test kitchen, and this Buffalo Ranch Chicken Sandwich is one I’m especially excited to bring to our guests,” Sami Siddiqui, president of Popeyes North America, said in a statement.

Using a taste of Upstate New York in its Louisiana Kitchen, Popeye’s new Buffalo Ranch Chicken Sandwich will compete with rivals McDonald’s, KFC, and Burger King, among other restaurant chains that have recently joined the fray for chicken sandwich superiority.
