  • Rashford suffered a minor injury during Man Utd's clash with Liverpool Sunday
  • Man Utd are set to host Sheffield in the league Wednesday
  • A win would take Man Utd back at the top of the league table

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer offered an update on Marcus Rashford’s fitness ahead of Manchester United’s Premier League clash with Sheffield United, which is scheduled to take place at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

Rashford, who scored in Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Liverpool in Sunday’s FA Cup fourth round, hurt his knee in the second half of the game that was played at the home of the Red Devils. As a result, Rashford was sent for a scan to process the extent of the problem and thankfully for Solskjaer, it showed no major damage.

"Marcus is available, yeah. He trained this morning. I think he tweaked his knee a little bit but should be fine. It was just a little niggle, but of course, we have to be wary about these things. He was coming off as a precaution anyway, but he should be available. We are looking strong, which is a good place to be in," Solskjaer told Manchester United’s official website in an interview ahead of the Sheffield game.

Solskajer described Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Liverpool in their recent FA Cup meeting as “physically, one of our top two or three games since I’ve come here.”

On being asked if there are any more injury issues in the team, Solskjaer said, "There are always those because of the accumulation of games and that will always be a factor when we decide on when to play players and when to rotate. So there will be a few rotations again."

Earlier, the Manchester United boss had mentioned that center-back Eric Bailly would be fit, even though he missed the weekend match against Liverpool as he is being carefully managed, like fellow defender Victor Lindelof.

Bruno Fernandes, who has become a crucial member of the Red Devils in very little time since his arrival to Old Trafford last year, started the FA Cup tie with Liverpool on the bench before eliminating the tourists from the tournament by scoring a winner with a stunning free-kick. It was Fernandes’ 16th goal in 29 competitive matches for Red Devils this season and the Portuguese playmaker will certainly return to Solskjaer’s starting XI Wednesday.

Even though Dean Henderson did a decent job with the gloves against Liverpool Sunday, David de Gea is expected to return in front of Manchester United’s goalpost.

After 19 matches in the 2020-21 Premier League, Manchester United are placed second with 40 points and are just a point behind leaders Manchester City. A win over Sheffield would see Solskjaer’s side reclaim the top spot in the table.
