  • Ighalo is open to staying long-term with United
  • Red Devils need to work on Ighalo deal with Chinese team
  • Ighalo vows to be a beast each time he takes the field

One player whose future is up in the air is Odion Ighalo. Signed to a short-term deal, critics feel that the 30-year-old is one player that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should seriously prioritize after the season. Ighalo's deal expires on May 31. But with the football season on hold, the Nigerian's future is likewise on pause.

In a previous post, it was mentioned how Manchester United needed to pull all strings to keep the Nigerian striker in the fold. He arrived from China last January, coming in to pinch-hit for Marcus Rashford. He has responded well to the call of Solskjaer and most feel that the Red Devils will be making the move permanent. To make that happen, United needs to strike a deal with Chinese Super League team Shanghai Shenhua.

Backing up the impressive showing of Ighalo is the fact that he seems pretty comfortable over at Old Trafford. Being a boyhood fan, the 30-year-old striker is living a dream even though his run was stopped due to the coronavirus pandemic. But if his recent words over at the team's official website are any indication, it appears Ighalo is open to staying permanently with the Red Devils.

“I am inspired by a lot of things at United, I am really inspired and I am looking forward to spending more time with the team,” Ighalo said.

So far, Ighalo has scored four goals in eight appearances for United. Part of his success is that he wants to come out each night like a beast on attack mode. That attitude should endear him more to Solskjaer, his teammates and Manchester United followers.

“I am a fighter, I never give up, I go for what I believe I can achieve and I give my best, 100 percent, no matter the outcome of the game, win or lose, I always give 100 percent from the beginning,” he said.

It appears United has one less player to worry about moving forward. However, there is work to be done to complete the transfer. Talks could be ongoing right now between the Red Devils and Shanghai Shenhua. But nothing is likely to be done for now due to plenty of complications. The first thing that needs to be settled is the fate of the current season. It remains suspended indefinitely with no word on whether it will resume or be scrapped.
