KEY POINTS

  • Kante could return for Chelsea
  • Lampard to talk with Kante about training
  • Kante may still be worried with players and personnel from other teams testing positive for COVID-19

N'Golo Kante is a missing player for Chelsea FC right now with the 29-year-old football player given compassionate leave by Frank Lampard recently. The main reason for this is because the French national is a bit worried about possibly contracting the coronavirus. Black men and women are reportedly twice likely to die from the coronavirus and Kante has had his forgettable health episodes.

As mentioned in a previous post, the French footballer has been through a lot. In 2018 he fainted during a training session. Aside from that, he also lost his brother who died of a heart attack that same year. Hence, Kante became a bit worried about training physically with his health possibly in jeopardy.

And while Lampard had initially allowed him to train remotely, it looks like the 41-year-old manager will try to sit down and discuss this with Kante. Lampard plans to brief Kante on the science behind the Premier League's decision to move to phase two of training, a move that could convince the French national to physically return to training, the Telegraph reported.

However, news about several players testing positive for COVID-19 may shroud those return plans. Players from Watford, Burnley, Brighton and Bournemouth had players and personnel testing positive for the coronavirus, BBC.com reported. Despite these developments, the Premier League voted recently and the verdict was to unanimously move onto the next phase of training.

Willy Caballero understands why Kante is cautious and is throwing his support for Kante as well. However, he is confident that the probability of contracting the disease is low.

"Many do not want to return until they feel guarantees and security. I believe that in this phase, the risk of contagion is very low and that is why we feel very confident," Caballero said to 90min.

It will be interesting how Lampard would be educating Kante on phase two plans of training. But for as long as positive cases are being reported, the chances of convincing him to physically report for training are not looking that good. Either way, Chelsea is ready to finish the season without the French football player. But should Kante have a change of heart, his presence would be a big boost for Lampard and the Blues chances.
