Queen Elizabeth II requires her entire family to celebrate Christmas together in Sandringham, but the royals can go anywhere they want during the New Year.

Prince Charles, who celebrated Christmas with the royal family in Sandringham, previously stayed at the Scottish Highlands to celebrate New Year. The Duke of Cornwall and the Duchess of Cornwall previously spent time on the Balmoral estate of Birchall.

Prince William and Kate Middleton also celebrated Christmas with the royal family in Sandringham. But for the New Year, it is possible that the Cambridges will head to Middleton’s side of the family in Berkshire. The upcoming New Year is extra special for the royal couple because this is the first time that they will celebrate the occasion with Prince Louis.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle also bonded with the Queen and the Duke of Sussex’s relatives at the Sandringham estate for the holidays. But last year, they flew to Monaco for the New Year. This year, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex may spend the holiday in another place, but it is also possible for them to stay in Sandringham.

After all, Markle is pregnant with her first child and is heading into the third trimester. The “Suits” alum is expected to give birth to her firstborn sometime in the spring of 2019.

In related news, the royal family also made headlines this week after they attended the Christmas church service at St. Mary Magdalene on Tuesday morning. Prince Charles, Prince William, Middleton, Prince Harry, Markle, the Queen, Prince Andrew, Princess Eugenie and more were all there.

Camilla skipped the gathering because she was still recovering from her cold. Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis weren’t there as well and are not expected to attend their first service until a few more years. Prince Andrew’s ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, wasn’t invited to the service despite her recent reunion with the royals at Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s wedding.

Prince Philip also opted to stay inside Sandringham on Christmas Day but was confirmed to be in good health even though royal fans didn’t see him outdoors.
