Prince Charles reportedly didn’t consider Princess Diana as his equal during their marriage.

Royal expert Sarah Bradford said in her book “Diana” that a member of Princess Diana’s staff heard her complain and say that there was no equality in her marriage with Prince Charles. The mom of two apparently found it an impossible situation. However, Bradford said that this behavior is common among many royals and not just Prince Charles.

“This royal attitude is common to all the senior members of the family, who never consider other people, their lives, their feelings or opinions. Many of the courtiers share the same view, hard for outsiders to comprehend,” she said.

However, Princess Diana reportedly struggled to come to terms with Prince Charles’ dismissive behavior because she was determined to cling to her sense of self. And in the early years of their marriage, Princess Diana was besotted with Prince Charles and actually suffered from the fact that he couldn’t spend as much time with her as she would have wanted.

To make things worse, Princess Diana reportedly felt that no one took her seriously. She was reportedly disregarded and that hurt her the most out of everything. And while Prince Charles was busy with his royal duties, Princess Diana felt that she didn’t have anything important to do.

“The imbalance between her empty life and Charles’ busy one became more marked,” she said.

Meanwhile, Princess Diana and Prince Charles wed in 1981 at St. Paul’s Cathedral. After 11 years, the couple decided to go their separate ways. Princess Diana and Prince Charles split their time with their sons Prince William and Prince Harry.

But in 1995, everything changed for the ex-couple after Princess Diana spoke with Martin Bashir for Panorama. During her interview, Princess Diana spoke negatively about the royal family. She also confirmed Prince Charles’ affair with Camilla Parker Bowles.

The controversial interview led to Queen Elizabeth II urging Prince Charles and Princess Diana to finalized their divorce, and they did. In 1996, they officially became a divorced couple.
