Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will "absolutely" receive an invite to Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee next year, a report says.

Buckingham Palace announced Wednesday that the Queen's Platinum Jubilee will be celebrated over four days in June 2022 with several events, including a party at the palace.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are now based in California after stepping back from their roles as working royals last year, but they are expected to return to the U.K. and celebrate with the royal family when the Queen marks a historic 70 years as a monarch next year, Page Six reported, citing multiple unnamed sources.

"Of course they’re invited, it’s a family event!" one "well-placed" insider told the outlet, adding that the Queen and the rest of the royal family will be looking forward to meeting Prince Harry and Markle's second child, a baby girl due this summer.

The tipster also said that both Prince Harry and Prince William wore their Jubilee medals at Prince Philip's funeral in April.

Another unnamed insider told Page Six that "so much" can happen in a year and that the royal family will want to see Prince Harry and Markle's son, Archie, and their new baby girl.

Queen Elizabeth II is the longest-reigning British monarch and is the first to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee. She was crowned on June 2, 1953, in Westminster Abbey, though she ascended to the throne on Feb. 6, 1952, when she was just 25 years old. However, her coronation was postponed for 16 months to allow for a period of mourning for the death of her father, King George VI.

To mark her 70th year on the throne next year, a four-day weekend of celebrations will be held from June 2 until June 5, People reported.

Trooping the Colour will begin the extended bank holiday weekend on June 2, 2022. The event usually takes place each year on the Queen's birthday, but it has been canceled in the last two years due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Queen Elizabeth will then attend the Epsom Derby horse race later in the week, and a live concert called "Platinum Party at the Palace" will take place at Buckingham Palace. A similar event was staged in 2012 for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

The Platinum Jubilee festivities also include the lighting of Platinum Jubilee beacons, a service of Thanksgiving at St. Paul's Cathedral, the Big Jubilee Lunch and the Platinum Jubilee Pageant.

The events "will provide an opportunity for communities and people throughout the United Kingdom to come together to celebrate the historic milestone," Buckingham Palace said.

Queen Elizabeth and the other members of the royal family are expected to travel around the U.K. for royal engagements marking the historic occasion in the months leading up to the weekend of events in June 2022.
