Prince Philip has already retired for the past three years, but his opinions still matter to Queen Elizabeth II.

While speaking with Express, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams claimed that the Duke of Edinburgh must have influenced Queen Elizabeth’s decision regarding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s bombshell exit.

“He may have well played a part in her decision not to allow them to use their royal titles or to perform royal duties part-time,” he said.

Fitzwilliams also said that Prince Philip’s decision to his wife was probably what motivated him to not stay silent following Prince Harry and Markle’s shocking announcement.

“During his whole life the Duke has shown devotion to the Queen and service to the monarchy and it is likely he will have taken a dim view of Harry and Meghan’s recent activities. These included releasing a statement saying they intended to step back as senior royals without warning the Queen and other senior royals,” he said.

On another occasion, Fitzwilliams said that the Queen must have used her husband as a sounding board amid the ongoing royal crises. However, this doesn’t discount the possibility that the Queen missed Prince Philip during her discussions with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in Sandringham.

Days after the crisis talks were finalized, the Duke of Edinburgh stepped out in public alongside his only daughter, Princess Anne. It is evident how much weight Prince Philip has lost, and he also seems frail.

Last month, Prince Philip was rushed to the hospital to seek treatment for a pre-existing condition. Four days later, he checked out of the facility. But photos of the dad of four caused royal fans to worry.

Some of them claimed that the Queen’s husband looks very weak, while others are convinced that Prince Philip doesn’t have very long to live.

Psychic Betsey Lewis’ prediction didn’t also help appease the feelings of royal fans when she said that Prince Philip would die before 2020. Luckily, Prince Charles’ dad is still very much alive.
