  • Kate Middleton recycled her 2011 Alexander McQueen lilac gown at the Earthshot Prize ceremony
  • Several netizens praised the Duchess of Cambridge for being a good example to other people
  • Some netizens want Prince William to be the next James Bond after seeing his look at the event

Prince William and Kate Middleton received compliments for their outfits when they attended the Earthshot Prize ceremony.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge looked stunning when they arrived at the inaugural awards ceremony of Prince William's Earthshot Prize in London Sunday. Guests were asked to "consider the environment when choosing their outfit," USA Today reported. And the royal couple followed the guideline.

Middleton arrived wearing her lilac Alexander McQueen gown that she first used in 2011. On the other hand, the future king wore a dark green velvet blazer and a black polo neck and black pants.

Twitter users praised the couple for their choice of outfits, especially Middleton, who wore an old gown at the event.

"I think they always get the tone just right. They look beautiful but not over-the-top glamorous so as not to take from the seriousness of the project. And Catherine is dressed for a supportive role as it is really William's night," one commented.

"She’s also re-wearing a dress from 2011 — a great example to us all about keeping and wearing things more than once," a second user added.

"Yup. Sustainability is a theme for tonight so more important than ever that she keeps with it — but she’s usually pretty good at recycling anyway," a third user added.

Another fan said she was jealous the dress still fits Middleton as it did 10 years ago after she welcomed three children.

Additionally, some netizens wondered about the fuss over Middleton’s habit of recycling dresses. One asked, "Really? Our standards are so low that 'woman wears dress more than once' gets them a lollipop?" A different user asked if there are people who do not wear their clothes more than once. A third netizen said billionaires recycle their outfits too and other royal princes and princesses do the same, so there's nothing special about Middleton's habit.

Another user defended Middleton saying the duchess would always be criticized no matter what she wears.

"She wears items more than once which is great. On the other hand, there are those who'd criticize her for that. She is damned if she does or doesn't. Personally, I'd choose her as our future Queen any day, as opposed to a cheap scruff," the royal fan wrote.

Meanwhile, some fans said they want Prince William to be the next James Bond after seeing his velvet green blazer. It can be noted that Daniel Craig sported a deep fuchsia pink velvet tuxedo at the "No Time to Die" premiere.

"I vote for Prince William to be the next James Bond!!" one netizen commented.

"I'm with you on that. I think he carries it off very well," a second user added.
