Prince William received a new title from Queen Elizabeth II after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s exit.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced a few weeks back that they were stepping down as senior members of the royal family. The Queen responded by allowing them to do as they wished. Her Majesty also removed Prince Harry and Markle from their royal duties and military appointments. The royal family continued carrying out their royal duties as expected.

Just recently, Queen Elizabeth II presented the Duke of Cambridge a new title following the Sussexes’ resignation. On Jan. 25, the Queen appointed Kate Middleton’s husband as the new Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, Us Weekly reported. Following the appointment, Prince William has become the Queen’s personal representative to the Church of Scotland. The future king is expected to carry out engagements and other ceremonial duties.

Prior to Prince William’s appointment, Richard Scott the 10th Duke of Buccleuch and 12th Duke of Queensberry, and Princess Anne previously held the role. There were also claims that the Princess Royal will take over one of the roles that Prince Harry vacated.

Prince Harry’s decision to leave the royal family was a massive blow to his royal grandfather Prince Philip who passed down an important role to the duke following his retirement in 2017. The Duke of Edinburgh made Prince Harry the Captain General of the Royal Marines, but following the younger royal’s decision to quit, the position was vacated. Prince Philip felt that his grandson let down the Royal Marines by quitting after just two years and royal author Brian Hoey said that the 98-year-old royal wanted his only daughter Princess Anne to take over.

“Princess Anne is already Admiral Chief Commandant of the Royal Navy and the Duke believes she would be the perfect choice for the Marines,” Hoey explained.

In related news, Prince Charles snubbed Prince Harry but praised Prince William in his powerful speech recently. The future king is a popular environmentalist and his two sons inherited his passion for the environment but the Prince of Wales didn’t mention his youngest son when he acknowledged Prince William’s efforts for the Earthshot initiative.
