Princess Diana was made to feel like she was an unwanted child while she was still under the care of her parents.

On the online forum site Quora, royal fans weighed in on the issue and said that there is a heartbreaking reason why this seemed to be the case. Pamela Brown, a flute player and screenwriter, said that it was the Princess of Wales’ gender that caused a problem with her relationship with her parents.

“She was supposed to have been a boy. The Spencers needed a male heir… When Charles was born, that fulfilled that need… Charles did not treat Diana all that well when she was alive… Diana asked to rent a house on the Althorp estate after her separation from Prince Charles, but her brother refused, saying that doing so would result in too much-unwanted publicity,” she said.

Christina Rodgers, who loves the royals, also said a similar thing. She said that there seemed to be an extensive bias in Princess Diana’s family because she was an unwanted girl. After all, Princess Diana already had two older sisters.

“They needed a living boy to carry the title of Earl Spencer because a woman could not inherit it. So the baby wasn’t unwanted but once she was born, and a girl, yes, it seems so,” she said.

Barkha Samnani, a post-graduate student, said that Princess Diana wasn’t an unwanted child. Rather, she was just born with the wrong sex. The Spencers wanted to have a boy at that time because not having one meant that they couldn’t inherit Althorp.

Meanwhile, Princess Diana had a very complicated relationship with her mom, Frances Shand Kydd. In the documentary “The Royal House of Windsor,” it was revealed that Kydd was forced to give up her children after she lost in her custody battle against her ex-husband.

Princess Diana admitted, later on in her life, that she was still haunted by the time that her mother left them for good.
