Last year, Sony Interactive Entertainment President Jim Ryan announced that the PS5 is coming sometime in the holiday of 2020. Over time, the Japanese gaming console maker has stayed tight-lipped on the release date of its next generation gaming console. Recently, Sony gave an update on the much-awaited arrival of the PS5, but it is not the update that most fans have long been expecting.

Sony made the release date confirmation in its most recent financial report. According to the Japanese gaming console maker, the PS5 is still on track with its scheduled release date, which is in the holiday season of 2020. In only means that like all other companies, Sony has its own share of the negative effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, but it is not significant enough to affect the release window of the PS5.

In the report, Sony says that "Although factors such as employees working from home and restrictions on international travel have presented some challenges in regards to the part of the testing process and the qualification of production lines, development is progressing with the launch of the console scheduled for the 2020 holiday season," said Sony. The company also notes that the current global health crisis has not affected PS5's software development.

Following the release, Tim Sweeny, CEO of Epic Games, made a comment about the unique development tools and software of Sony's next generation gaming console. He praised the advanced architecture of the PS5, which for him, is ahead of anything.

According to Sweeny, "[The PS5] has an immense amount of GPU power, but also multi-order bandwidth increase in storage management." Unknown to many, the executive revealed that Epic Games and Sony have been working together about storage. He added that "The storage architecture on the PS5 is far ahead of anything you can buy on the PC for any amount of money right now. It's going to help drive future PCs."
