Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) reportedly approached Liverpool FC in the summer of 2021 over Mohamed Salah’s transfer.

PSG were looking at Salah as a possible replacement for Kylian Mbappe, who had been linked with a move away from Parc des Princes ahead of the 2021-22 campaign. PSG were ready with a plan to land the Egyptian King and were willing to pay $115 million or more to secure his transfer, according to French publication Le10 Sport.

"If Kylian Mbappé left, whatever the date, everything was ready with Mohammed Salah from Liverpool. They activated the plan, they (the PSG) put the money: 80M€ [$92M] or 100M€ [$115M] and everything was ready with Mohammed Salah," Le Parisien journalist Dominique Séverac, who has a credible record in France soccer, was quoted by Le10 Sport, as saying in a recent interview.

While Mbappe stayed put at PSG, the Ligue 1 giants are still monitoring Salah’s contract situation at Liverpool, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

"Salah is still in negotiations with Liverpool. From what I'm told, he loves Liverpool, the fans, the city, everything. But there is no agreement yet for a new contract. We should keep an eye on some clubs this summer if players leave like Mbappe. But until next summer, Liverpool's priority will be to extend Salah's contract," Romano added on Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube show FIVE.

Salah, who moved from Roma to Liverpool ahead of the 2017-18 season, has top-scored for the Reds in each of the seasons since then. His maiden campaign with Liverpool was his best so far, where he netted an incredible 44 goals. He recently surpassed 100 Premier League goals for Liverpool and overall, he has scored 134 goals in 212 matches for the Reds, across all competitions.

In the underway 2021-22 campaign, Salah netted three goals and provided one assist in nine competitive matches for Liverpool, who are yet to lose a match.
