  • Racing Point is scheduled to launch its 2020 car in Mondsee, Austria
  • Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll will start for Racing Point in the 2020 F1 championship
  • Team boss Otmar Szafnauer has cautioned owner, Lawrence Stroll against high expectations

Racing Point is scheduled to come to the Austrian town of Mondsee on February 17th for the launch of its 2020 campaign.

Their drivers, Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll, are also going to be on hand to kick off the season in the hometown of the team sponsors, BWT. They will continue on to Barcelona and Circuit de Catalunya for the start of winter testing on February 19th.

Racing Point's 2020 car is significant for the team that is looking to have a better run at the constructor's championship. It will be their second season since being purchased by Stroll's father, Lawrence, during mid-2018.

Racing Point finished the previous season in seventh position, just 12 points adrift of Toro Rosso and 16 in front of Alfa Romeo Racing.

Water tech firm, BWT joined what was then Force India in 2017. Their arrival has led to the team campaigning cars with ink color schemes within their subsequent campaigns.

Racing Point is the sixth team to reveal a date for the launch of their 2020 iteration. All of the other five teams previously confirmed launches are taking place the week before.

Ferrari's launch is on February 11th, while the launch for Renault is February 12th. McLaren launches on the 13th while Mercedes reveals their 2020 car on the next day after that.

Since the takeover and rebranding, Racing Point says they performed poorly in 2019 because it was in administration for as long as they had been the year before, and this stunted their development of the 2019 car.

However, the investment assisted the team to begin working on some of their plans for the future. Though, team boss Otmar Szafnauer claims it is still going to take time for the team to make significant gains and that Stroll's resources are not going to be enough to make sudden improvements to performance.

When asked about the expectations of the team, he stated that in Formula 1, one has to do over a long period. Even teams like Mercedes took three years to win a race, and that was after they bought a driver.

Mercedes is the same team that won the championship consecutively.

He mentioned that the team owner, Lawrence, is ambitious though Szafnauer said that he would have to understand these things do not happen overnight.

Szafnauer went on to correct the misconception that money is the deciding factor in performance. He said that without money, it is impossible, but even with money, it takes time.
