KEY POINTS

  • Miguel Baeza is a promising player out of the Real Madrid academy
  • Baeza is expected to play for Celta Vigo in the upcoming season
  • Los Blancos still holds 50 percent ownership for Baeza’s contract and will monitor his progress

An agreement was finalized between Real Madrid and Celta Vigo for the services of Los Blancos’ Miguel Baeza. The decision to let go of Baeza doesn’t mean that Real Madrid has disregarded the 20-year-old, as the Santiago-Bernabeu based squad will monitor his performance in the coming months.

The terms for the Baeza deal indicate that Real Madrid still holds 50 percent ownership of the midfielder, per Fansided’s The Real Champs. This means that Real Madrid will still pay half of his salary and will continue to observe his development as a player. The new environment will hopefully provide Baeza with new opportunities and give him more experience in La Liga action.

"Real Madrid C. F. and RC Celta have reached an agreement over the transfer of Miguel Baeza,” Real Madrid’s statement said.

Given that Baeza was a product of Real Madrid’s academy, he’s spent a considerable amount of time serving the organization.

“Our club would like to thank Miguel Baeza for the commitment, professionalism and exemplary conduct displayed throughout all the seasons he spent as a member of our academy and wishes him all the best in this new chapter,” the statement continued.

Throughout his career, Baeza has shown potential on the field when given the chance. In 27 appearances as a member of Real Madrid Castilla, he managed to score nine times and tally four assists. There’s a possibility for him to improve and show what he’s capable of with a squad that will give him considerable minutes. If he’s shown great progress in his development, then Real Madrid may consider welcoming him back to the squad.

For now, the consistent performances of Zinedine Zidane’s players have propelled Real Madrid bigger heights. The latest La Liga tournament featured a dominant display from Karim Benzema on the offense and Thibaut Courtois as a defensive anchor.

With Celta Vigo struggling as seen in their 17th place finish in the recent La Liga, they would need the depth and energy from someone like Baeza. It will be interesting to see how young players like Baeza will grow and mature in a new setting.
