Liverpool FC could reportedly receive competition from Real Madrid in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham.

Real Madrid are seeing Bellingham as a long-term replacement for Luka Modric, reported ESPN. The 36-year-old midfielder's contract with the Spanish club is due to expire in the summer.

While Liverpool are looking to land Bellingham in the 2022 summer, the La Liga leaders are preparing a plan that will see the English teenager move to Santiago Bernabeu in 2023, reported German publication BILD.

It was earlier reported that Bellingham is fondly called the "Young Steven Gerrard." He is contracted with Dortmund until 2025. A deal for the 18-year-old central midfielder could cost at least $110 million. Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti wants to rebuild his midfield but the club could be risking it by not going after the player in the coming summer window.

Liverpool have made the signing of Bellingham a priority, according to Caughtoffside. The Jurgen Klopp-managed side has not yet signed a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum, who left Anfield in the summer of 2021 as a free agent. In addition, the Reds are also looking to bring in someone who could fill in as a long-term replacement for Jordan Henderson.

With Dortmund on the verge of losing Erling Haaland at the end of the 2021-22 campaign, the Bundesliga club is certainly determined to reject every deal they receive for Bellingham, according to Spanish outlet Todo Fichajes.

With 57 points after 27 matches, Dortmund are second in the 2021-22 Bundesliga table, six points behind leaders Bayern Munich. Haaland is yet again his club’s leading scorer this season, having already netted 23 goals. Bellingham, meanwhile, has scored six goals and provided 13 assists.

Bellingham joined Birmingham City as an eight-year-old and rose through the ranks before making his senior debut with the Championship side in the 2019-20 season. He scored four goals and two assists for Birmingham before moving to Dortmund the following summer.

In 83 matches, across all competitions, Bellingham has netted 10 goals and 17 assists for Dortmund since joining them ahead of the 2020-21 campaign.
