  • James Rodriguez's agent approaches Man Utd over a summer move
  • Rodriguez is not a part of Zidane's future plans
  • He has started in just 4 La Liga games this season

Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez reportedly could move to Manchester United in the upcoming summer transfer window.

It is understood that the Colombian star does not have a guaranteed place in the team since the return of manager Zinedine Zidane as he has started in just four La Liga games this season.

Rodriguez’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has approached Manchester United, who had earlier shown interest in the 28-year-old midfielder, according to Sport. Rodriguez reportedly had agreed to personal terms in 2017 to move to Old Trafford but Real and Man Utd like always failed to agree on a price.

A few reports have also stated that Real had earlier tried to trade Rodriguez to Man Utd as a part of a deal to bring Paul Pogba to Santiago Bernabéu. However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Co refused to let go of the Frenchman.

Rodriguez, who joined Real after his impressive performance at the FIFA World Cup in 2014, is very well aware that he is no longer a part of Zidane’s future plans. It is understood that Real are willing to accept transfer offers below $38 million for Rodriguez and that’s not even half of the $88m they had paid to sign him from Monaco ahead of the 2014-15 season.

Rodriguez played for Real for three straight seasons between 2014 and 2017, where he won seven trophies including two Champions League titles and a La Liga trophy. The Colombian, who also plays as a winger, was then loaned to Bayern Munich for two seasons between 2017 and 2019, where he won two Bundesliga titles along with the DFB Pokal. However, he failed to secure a permanent place at the Allianz Arena and hence moved back to Madrid ahead of the 2019-20 season.

While Rodriguez is looking forward to playing in the Premier League, it is not certain if Man Utd are still interested in him. The Old Trafford side, according to reports, is targeting players such as Ashton Villa skipper Jack Grealish, Leicester City’s James Maddison and Dortmund’s talented midfielder Jadon Sancho ahead of the next transfer window.

Currently, soccer across the globe has been suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic. While Man Utd are fifth in the Premier League table, Real are second in La Liga behind FC Barcelona.
