KEY POINTS

  • Certified refurbished units of the 2019 iPad Air and iPad Mini 5 are now available via Apple
  • Buyers can save as much as $100 compared to when buying a new device
  • Refurbished units are like new, including packaging, parts, warranty and more

Apple is now selling refurbished units of the latest iPad models, particularly the 2019 iPad Air and iPad Mini 5, and is making it easier for those who want to upgrade to a better device.

Certified refurbished third-generation iPad Air and iPad Mini 5 models are now available via the Apple Refurbished Store, MacRumors reported. This is the first time that these models were refurbished and sold since their release early last year.

Interested parties can purchase the two devices in a variety of colors and configurations. They come in Gold, Space Gray and Silver finishes; can come with either 64GB or 256GB of storage space; and come as Wi-Fi only models. The iPad Mini 5, however, has a Wi-Fi + Cellular configuration for those who need to stay connected with or without Wi-Fi.

Refurbished units are definitely cheaper than new models. Buyers can save between $60 and $100 when purchasing a refurbished unit as compared to when buying a brand-new unit. The savings, however, depend on the actual device model and configuration being purchased.

Now why should consumers consider buying a refurbished model instead of a brand-new unit via Apple's online Store? Here are a few reasons:

  • They are tested and brought up to Apple's standards

Apple inspects and tests each and every unit, replaces every part that needs to be replaced using “genuine Apple replacement parts,” and cleans each unit thoroughly before putting them up for sale.

  • They come with new parts

All Apple refurbished iPads come are fitted with a new battery, and come with a new outer shell. As mentioned above, these parts, along with other components that need replacing, are genuine. They will also come with the device's original Operating System. Users can simply update the OS to the latest version via the App Store, of course.

  • They come packaged like new

Apple said each refurbished unit comes repackaged in a brand new box, along with new accessories and cables. Buyers won't be able to tell the difference between a new and refurbished unit based on the packaging and how the device looks like.

  • They come with a warranty

All refurbished units will come with a one-year warranty in the event that something happens with the device. Buyers will also enjoy the convenience of free delivery and returns.
